Introduction
I hold degrees in philosophy, anthropology, and business administration and have a good working knowledge of
Bulgarian, Spanish, German and Indonesian. I studied abroad at the University of Munich (philosophy and
anthropology) and conducted master's level anthropological field research in Mexico and PHD research in Indonesia.
I have also conducted extensive field research in Bulgaria.
During my years in business, I developed marketing,
clinical programs, and joint ventures for pharmaceutical companies in Europe, Latin America and Indonesia. As
Vice President for International Operations for Proctor and Gamble Pharmaceuticals, I oversaw marketing, business
development, and subsidiary management in Japan, Africa and Asia. I have lived abroad for 19 years and traveled to
50 countries. (Some of my adventures include being caught in a major earthquake in the Philippines, standing in the
wrong line in the airport in Kartoum for 9 hours, and eating a chicken head.)
During my years in academia, I have
served in various capacities at the School of Management of Binghamton University: Dean (1996 & 1997), Associate
Dean (1999-Present), Visiting Professor (1992-Present). With the opportunity provided by two Fulbright Teaching
and Research grants (1993-94, 1994-95), I taught and developed a management and marketing curriculum at the
American University in Bulgaria (AUBG). During a 10 year association with Excelsior College, I have served as a
faculty member, both consulting and teaching, as an interim Associate Dean, and as an independent consultant for
Excelsior business program reviews and development.
